Historical account of which party controls the Senate. Currently the Senate is controlled by the Democrats.
From 1955 to 1995, the Democrats controlled the House of Representatives and in 1995, the Republican party had a majority in the House of Representatives in 1995.
In September 2007, the Democrats regained control of the House 232 to 201.
